An IAS of the 1978 batch, Ravi Saxena is last served as the Additional Chief Secretary – Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat.
He has held various managerial assignments in the Public Sector Undertakings of Central and State Government. He contributed to the development of the Industrial and Economic infrastructure of Gujarat State as the chief of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board and Development Commissioner of SEZs.
He has effectively managed rescue, relief and disaster mitigation work on various occasions including the 2001 Gujarat Earthquake and various natural disasters and riots that broke out in the state.
He has conceptualised and founded various organisations during his career, for effective working of the departments he headed.
He is passionate about harnessing the power of Information Technology and has been pursuing use of IT in governance, right from the beginning of his career. He has many firsts to his credit in the area of eGovernance.
He is a champion of Digital Empowerment and cautions that ICT revolution is creating a schism between the digitally connected and those who are deprived, which may be dangerous for society. He believes that by bridging the digital divide, the society will gradually move towards holistic inclusion where the health, education, food, drinking water, sanitation, housing and livelihood issues of the underserved will also get addressed. He has been advocating the need to spread the power of IT amongst the people at the bottom to ensure delivery of intended benefits to them.
He has also been relentlessly campaigning for consolidation of Government IT infrastructure for the entire country which should result in a Unified Government Cloud Structure.
He is a futurist who not only has the ability to think ahead of times but also demonstrates the confidence to promote and share his revolutionary ideas as actionable, distilled insights.
He leaves his mark by devising resolute systems and frameworks resulting in instinctive resolution of persistent issues. He has accomplished several milestones that few could envisage.
He has been awarded severally for the contributions he has made in the field of eGovernance and IT development within the State of Gujarat.
Born on 02 March 1953, he obtained his degree in M. Sc (Physics) from Banaras Hindu University in the year 1971.
