Industrial Promotion & Development

He made significant contributions to the development of the Industrial and Economic infrastructure of Gujarat State.

Under his tenure as the Joint Managing Director of GIDC (1982-83), new Industrial Estates of Gujarat like Gandhinagar Electronics Estate, Chhatral, Sachin, Sarigam, Panoli and Vapi were developed and populated. In 1996 he returned to GIDC as its Vice Chairman and Managing Director and pioneered port based model of Industrial Development under which GIDC acquired large tracts of land near the coastal belts. Much before the concept of SEZs was introduced to India; he experimented with Public-Private Partnership in Industrial Parks and SEZs.

He played a pivotal role in populating various GIDC estates by conducting road shows in major Indian cities and inviting leading industrialists, business houses and corporates to set up their facilities in Gujarat.

Besides promoting Gujarat on the domestic front, he has played an important role in showcasing Gujarat as an investor-friendly state across the world. He has successfully led various high-level delegations to countries like USA, UK, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and others and met leading corporates & business houses there. He has organised many road shows and addressed the local chambers of commerce, trade assocations and business communities promoting Gujarat state as a model destination for investments.
